William L. Mayo Prestigious Speaker Series to Feature an Evening with Ruby Bridges

The William L. Mayo Prestigious Speaker Series is set to feature civil rights activist Ruby Bridges and author of the book Through My Eyes.

Ruby Bridges was the first African America student to attend an all white elementary school in New Orleans. Four federal marshals had to escort Bridges into the school building to protect her from a line of protesters outside the building.

“We are extremely excited to have Ruby Bridges here, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of integration on our campus,” Assistant Director of Student Activities and Special Events Deepti Chadee said. “She has an extremely compelling story that we hope will inspire those who attend.”

The event will occur on Wednesday February 4 at 7 p.m. in Ferguson Auditorium. Admission is free for A&M-Commerce students, $5 for faculty and staff and $10 for the community. Student tickets are available at The Club inside the Rayburn Student Center or at the door. Faculty, staff and community members must purchase tickets online.

To order tickets online and for more information on the event, visit: www.tamuc.edu/MayoSpeakerSeries.
