University Playhouse Announces Fall Auditions Sept. 2

COMMERCE, Texas – General auditions for the University Playhouse’s fall shows will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Individuals will have a two-minute time slot to audition on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Auditions are open to all A&M-Commerce students, faculty and staff, as well as local residents.

This year’s University Playhouse season begins with “Still Life with Iris” by Steven Dietz, a fantasy-adventure designed to delight viewers of all ages. “Still Life With Iris” will run Thursdays through Sundays, Oct. 16-26, with special daytime public school performances Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 23-24.

On Friday, Nov. 7, the University Playhouse will offer a special performance of “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney. “Love Letters” highlights the moving and often humorous adventures of those who find themselves surprisingly in love.

The University Playhouse will conclude its fall semester by presenting a Festival of New Ten-Minute Plays. Following an appearance in the renowned Southwest Theatre and Film Association, the festival will be presented in Commerce on Thursday, Nov. 13, through Sunday, Nov. 16. The plays are the result of a nation-wide search and will offer audiences humor, drama and intrigue.

The University Playhouse will open in the spring with “Hank Williams: Lost Highways.” The musical explores the life of country singer Hank Williams, his rise to fame, and his ultimate demise. “Hank Williams: Lost Highways” runs Thursdays through Sundays, Feb. 12-22, with a special Gala performance to benefit scholarships for A&M-Commerce theatre students.

The spring semester continues with Shakespeare’s “Ontological Magick Circus,” a journey into the bards’ plays and sonnets where we discover the simple complexity of what it means to be human.

The semester will conclude with a “Weekend of Original One-Act Plays” that are written, designed, and executed by our most talented theatre students. The weekend promises to be a wonderfully entertaining and education experience for audiences and theatre artists alike. The “Weekend of Original One-Act Plays” runs May 1-2.
