Ogden Honored As Professor Emeritus

Ogden Honored As Professor Emeritus

COMMERCE, Texas — Dr. W.R. “Railroad Bill” Ogden lived up to his tradition of entertaining the masses at his own reception honoring him as a Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Ogden joined math faculty members Dr. Stuart Anderson and Thomas Faulkenberry to play for colleagues arriving at the ceremony and reception.

Prior to retiring May 31, Ogden had taught in the College of Education and Human Services department of educational leadership, and hosted 88.9 KETR’s “Bluegrass Special” for 25 years.

“When I came to this place, I knew that I wanted to be here with the green campus and red brick buildings,” Ogden said. “I stayed 33 years longer than I had planned.”

Revered by colleagues for his research and published manuscripts, Ogden is considered one of the most respected department heads of all time, according to Dr. Brent Mangus, dean of the College of Education and Human Services.

“In his 36 years at the university, Ogden has served as major adviser to more than 60 doctoral students,” said Dr. Dan Jones, university president. “We wish him well in his retirement.”
