Distinguished Alum Named Senior Vice President of NAHRO

Texas A&M University-Commerce Distinguished Alumnus Carl Richie, Jr. was recently sworn in as the Senior Vice President of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).

Richie graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from then-East Texas State University in 1981. He went onto get his Master of Public Administration degree from Texas Southern University in 1984, a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1989, and his Public Policy Fellow at The Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution at The University of Texas School of Law in 1993. He has worked at three major Texas-based law firms, which put him at the status of partner before starting his own firm. He has also worked at local, state and federal levels of government, giving him wide-ranging legislative experience.

“I am excited to serve as Senior Vice President of NAHRO, and am grateful for the trust that my colleagues from across the country have placed in me,” said Richie. “My highest priority is to strengthen public housing and community development agencies so they can move persons of low income to true self-sufficiency through stronger job training, education and health and wellness programs.”

NAHRO is the largest affordable housing and community development organization in the nation. Its members provide housing for over 7.9 million low-income people. It is composed of 17,000 individual members and associates and 2,800 agency members. Prior to becoming vice president, Richie had past experience with NAHRO, including serving on the national Board of Governors, leading conferences and workshops on ethics, agency operations and management, and serving as the national board’s parliamentarian.
