Bertulani to Chair Texas APS

Bertulani to Chair Texas APS

Dr. Carlos Bertulani has been elected 2018 chair of the Texas Section of the American Physical Society (APS). The American Physical Society (APS) is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics through its outstanding research journals, scientific meetings, and education, outreach, advocacy, and international activities. APS represents over 53,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and throughout the world. Society offices are located in College Park, MD (Headquarters); Ridge, NY; and Washington, D.C.

In Texas, the APS organizes two meetings, one in the spring together with the American Association of Physics Teachers, (AAPT) and the Society of Physics Students (SPS) meeting in the fall. The fall meeting gathers a larger number of APS members. Dr. Bertulani is not new to the APS leadership. In 2011 he was chair of the local committee organizing the Fall meeting of the TSAPS in Commerce, which gathered the largest number of members so far, about 350 Texas physicists. Dr. Bertulani was also elected chair of the APS Committee on Education (COE) for the years 2015 and 2016. Becoming chair of the TSAPS is a great honor and will bring even more visibility to the Physics and Astronomy department at TAMU-Commerce.
