Auditions For Hank Williams Show Start Nov. 24

COMMERCE, Texas – Auditions for “Hank Williams, Lost Highway” are slated at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24-25, at the Texas A&M University-Commerce Performing Arts Center.

A&M-Commerce students, employees, and local residents are invited to audition for the three female roles and the seven male roles.

Among the roles to be cast are the members of Hank Williams’ band, the Drifting Cowboys, Hank’s mother, and his first wife.

To audition, prepare one or two minutes of a country or gospel song. Musical instruments, such as acoustic guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, and acoustic bass, must be provided. A piano will be available.

Those auditioning need to be prepared, if asked, to read a few pages from the script.

“Hank Williams, Lost Highway” is the musical tale of the meteoric rise and fall of America’s first country and western super star. “Combining southern gospel music with African American blues themes and hillbilly fiddle and guitar, Hank created a genre of music that gave rise to rock and roll,” said Jim Anderson, theatre faculty member.

The play will be presented Feb. 12-22, 2009 on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center.
