A&M-Commerce Professor to Present Concert in Dallas

COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Commerce assistant professor of music Luis Sanchez will soon get to showcase his talent on a replica of a fortepiano similar to the one Mozart had.

Sanchez will be the featured soloist with the Orchestra of New Spain’s the Royal Palace at Aranjuez: On The Edge of Classicism. The event occurs on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, 6121 E.
Lovers Lane.

On
playing this fortepiano, Sanchez said, “It is a wonderful experience to feel you are getting closer to the music and the composer when you hear and perform the music on period instruments.”

Dr. Christopher White, head of the A&M-Commerce Department of Music, said Sanchez is an excellent performer. “I can think of no one better to play Mozart on a fortepiano,” White said.

“As a professional musician, Luis is a scholar of performance practice.
He employs the correct ornamentation and phrasing for the period and adjusts his touch according to the articulation expected by the composer,” he said.

Sanchez was born in Argentina and has appeared in recitals, lectures, and master classes in the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, and Norway. In addition to teaching piano at A&M-Commerce, he is active as a soloist, clinician, collaborative artist, and adjudicator.
