Dr. Nathan R. Templeton, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, has been named 2017’s Educator of the Year by the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration (TCPEA).

Dr. Templeton has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership since 2012. Before working at Texas A&M University Commerce, Dr. Templeton taught in Texas public schools for 12 years as a band director, fine arts administrator and campus principal. “I am truly honored to be the recipient of the 2017 Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration Educator of the Year Award,” Dr. Templeton said. “For me, teaching is a passion and a calling. To be valued by one’s peers in recognition of the influence on practitioner leadership development is a special honor and one that I will forever cherish.”

The Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration is dedicated to promoting the improvement and advancement of educational leadership through yearly conventions and conferences, fostering relationships between educators and educational organizations and encouraging research. The organization’s Educator of the Year Award was established in order to recognize outstanding instructors in the field of educational leadership in Texas. Recipients must be active members of the TCPEA.

Dr. Humphreys, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, said of the award, “Dr. Templeton is one of our finest educators. His passion for teaching inspires students to keep learning in spite of any social barricades that may exist in their lives. Among his colleagues, he is considered one of the most respected researchers in his field. Texas A&M University-Commerce is fortunate to have Dr. Templeton as a faculty member who mentors others. He serves as a role model to junior faculty as well as students interested in Educational Administration.”
