28 Feb 2014 Business Students: Apply for China Study Abroad Scholarships
The A&M-Commerce College of Business and Entrepreneurship is sponsoring a study abroad program with the China University of Geosciences in Beijing (CUGB) for the summer of 2014. In this cultural and educational exchange, A&M-Commerce students will spend two weeks studying at CUGB, and students from the Beijing university will study at A&M-Commerce during July and August. Ten scholarships are available to cover a portion of the cost of the experience, which is estimated between $4,900 and $5,409.
The two-week study abroad program will be a part of the May mini-mester, during which students will take a three-credit undergraduate or graduate course focusing on business issues in a global environment. The course will count toward their degrees in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and will be taught by Dr. Chris Myers, associate professor of marketing and management at A&M-Commerce. Students will continue their studies in this course after arriving in China when classes begin there on July 6.
Degree-seeking College of Business and Entrepreneurship students who have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or a graduate GPA of 3.0 who intend to travel to China in the summer of 2014 are invited to apply for the college’s Study Abroad Competitive Scholarship. The award amount is $2,500 per student. A faculty committee will choose the recipients as well as alternates to ensure that 10 students participate in the study abroad program.
The essay should be an interesting and creative reflection of you in two single-spaced pages or less. Please use 12-point Times New Roman and include your full name, student ID number, email, phone number, class standing and major at the beginning of the essay. This essay is critical to the nomination process, and it will be the primary way the committee will get to know you and your preparedness for international study. Plagiarism will not be tolerated; please cite any use of sourced material. In your essay, you may respond to a topic of your choice or any of the following:
• Describe how participation in this program will contribute to your academic goals. Specifically, how will this study abroad program build upon your education to date and connect to your studies when you return to campus?
• What do you believe is the value in studying abroad? When you look back on your study abroad, what do you hope to say that you have gained from the experience, academically, personally and professionally?
• Discuss how aspects of your own culture and identity might influence and shape your study abroad experience.
• What challenges might you face in study abroad that you have not already addressed in your previous essays?
