16 Oct 2015 A&M-Commerce Opens S.E.E.D.S.
A grand opening of the Serving Engaged Empowered & Diverse Students (S.E.E.D.S.) office at Texas A&M University-Commerce was held on September 23, 2015. The S.E.E.D.S. office is charged with helping students navigate the inclusive and diverse environment of our multifaceted, multicultural campus. We encourage all students to stop by the office, located on the ground floor of the Rayburn Student Center.
The office stands for embracing the value and respect of ALL students. As a unit, it strives to collaborate with various campus and community organizations that provide support, resources, educational opportunities and events, focusing on six target areas that span diversity: race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, interfaith, socioeconomic status, and disability.
Empowering the students of A&M-Commerce to “Embrace Equality and Celebrate Differences,” the S.E.E.D.S. program aspires to be recognized on the local, regional, and national levels as an office that actively engages students in diverse experiences, leadership development, and the promotion of positive social justice within and among the surrounding communities.
Every staff member in S.E.E.D.S. shares in a common mission to advance diversity education, to provide leadership opportunities for students and to help them develop supportive, meaningful relationships. The office welcomes two-time graduate of Western Kentucky University, Joshua Moore, as its new associate director, serving under Danielle Davis, director of Leadership Engagement & Development Department (L.E.A.D.). The office would also like to recognize Mayra Martinez, A&M-Commerce alumna, who serves a dual role as graduate assistant for S.E.E.D.S. and teaching assistant for First-Year Leadership Class (FLC).
“S.E.E.D.S. is an office where all students are welcome. No matter your background, there is a place for you in S.E.E.D.S. Just as our philosophy states, we are not just a space but a place for ALL,” said Joshua Moore, associate director, S.E.E.D.S.
